“WRITING THE NONFICTION BOOK PROPOSAL”

with G.J. AUTHOR LEIGH FORTSON

aWriters’ Forum/MCPL event

Friday, April 15

Come join us for a free afternoon workshop with G.J. author Leigh Fortson, cosponsored by the Western Colorado Writers' Forum and Mesa County Public Libraries. NOTE: Due to family concerns, Leigh cannot join us for the evening, and we have CANCELLED the evening reading.

Fortson will teach "How to Write a Nonfiction Book Proposal" 2-4 p.m. at the downtown library, 10th & Grand, G.J. The workshop will cover how many publishing houses (large or small) do not accept finished nonfiction manuscripts, and instead require a comprehensive book proposal that includes a convincing overview with a fresh "hook," detailed and "formula" descriptions of each chapter, research on the need for your book, a marketing and PR plan, a thorough list of both complimentary and competitve books, and sample chapters.

Workshop participants will learn how to compile this information efficiently and walk away with confidence and the necessary tools to craft a marketable proposal.

To register, call MCPL at 243-4442, or stop by at any library branch, as soon as you can! Maximum 30.

Leigh Fortson, author of many award-winning plays, has written and ghostwritten several nonfiction mass market books, including her new book: Embrace, Release, Heal: An Empowering Guide to Talking About,

Thinking About and Treating Cancer (Sounds True Publishing, May, 2011).
